Brandon Key,   
Associate Director of Bands

Brandon Key serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Simmons Middle School in Hoover, Alabama. His responsibilities include conducting the concert band and jazz band, while assisting in the instruction of the beginning band and honor band. 

Mr. Key is a native of Montgomery, Alabama and a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. Mr. Key has studied and taken courses in pursuit of a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Alabama State University and a Master of Music in wind conducting at the University of Alabama. Mr. Key was fortunate to study conducting with Demondrae Thurman and Kenneth Ozzello. Mr. Key has also studied pastoral leadership at Highlands College and educational leadership at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, respectively. 

Prior to his appointment at Simmons Middle School, Mr. Key served as a minister and director at a Birmingham area church for nearly five years in various capacities. Prior to that, he led and revitalized band programs in Montgomery Public Schools and Tarrant City Schools. He also gained teaching experience in Jefferson County Schools and Macon County Schools throughout a career that has spanned over fifteen years. Under Key’s leadership, his bands have won several prestigious awards and consistently received superior ratings at festivals and performance assessments throughout the state. 

Mr. Key holds memberships in the following professional organizations: National Education Association (NEA), Alabama Education Association (AEA), National Association for Music Educators (NafME), Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA) and Alabama Bandmasters Association (ABA). He is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Mr. Key resides in Hoover with his wife and two daughters.
