All State Auditions 2025

All State Audition Information 2025

  • Date: January 18th, 2025

  • Location: Hoover High School

  • Time: All of the students will be assigned an audition time in January.. The auditions usually start as early as 9:00 AM. If you have a late or early preference for times please contact Mrs. McCollum (hmccollum@hoover.k12.al.us) and let her know. 

  • Cost: $10- this will be available on my school fees after Thanksgiving Break. 

  • What happens at the audition?

    • The students complete a blind audition where the judges cannot see them.

    • They will perform their scales (they must get 5 scales plus the corresponding arpeggio correct to pass the scale room). 

    • After they perform their scales they will perform the two prepared pieces and complete sightreading. 

    • Based on the audition they can make all-district honor band or both all-district and all-state honor band.

All State Help Resources

We ❗HIGHLY❗ recommend private lessons for any student trying out for all state. You can find a complete list of teachers teaching private lessons at simmonsband.com under the private lessons tab. Most students that take private lessons end up making all district or all state band.

We encourage students to have 3-4 30 minute practice sessions per week on the all state music broken down like we showed in the prep guide. 😃

 

All State Help Session Days

We have some extra days that Mr. Chambless and Mrs. McCollum are going to stay after school to help students with all-state auditions. We are still working on Janaury dates and will post them here once we have them. These are not required to attend in order to try out, these are just extra times that we have to help your students!

November 18th: 3:30-4:30 PM

December 2nd: 3:30-4:30 PM

December 5th: 3:30-4:30 PM

December 16th: 3:30-4:30 PM

January 7th: 3:30-4:30 PM

January 9th: 3:30-4:30 PM

January 13th: 3:30-4:30 PM

Additionally every Wednesday and Friday morning in morning band from 8:00 AM-8:20 AM will be reserved for students to get extra all state help.
